First Permit Filed for ‘Monsters, Inc.’ Land Construction at MuppetVision 3D Theater

Walt Disney Imagineering filed their first permit for construction at the MuppetVision 3D theater in Disney’s Hollywood Studios following the show’s permanent closure.

The Notice of Commencement expires one year after the recorded date of July 1, 2025. It calls for “General construction” at the MuppetVision theater address: 365 Cypress Dr, Lake Buena Vista, FL, 32830. The contractor is PCL Construction Services, Inc. The same contractor was listed on a permit for demolition in Stage 1 Company Store, the former Muppets gift shop.

According to concept art for the new Monstropolis land replacing Muppets Courtyard, the MuppetVision 3D theater — which was called the Grand Arts Theater for its final years as part of Grand Avenue — will become “The Glob,” a parody of Shakespeare’s Globe. We don’t yet know what attraction will be inside The Glob. Signage visible in the concept art seems to say “Welcome Humans” and “Meet Monstropolis,” but details like this are subject to change.

The permit does not indicate if construction will be inside or outside the theater. The concept art implies the exterior won’t change much except for a new marquee and decor changes.

Other buildings in the area, like PizzeRizzo and Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano, will also be reused for the “Monsters, Inc.” land. Stage 1 Company Store will be completely demolished.

Construction has already begun in Muppets Courtyard on Grand Avenue, with some trees and the Miss Piggy fountain removed. Part of the backstage area and Cast Member parking lot is blocked off for construction of the new door roller-coaster — Disney’s first vertical lift coaster and first suspended coaster.

The final public performance of MuppetVision 3D was on June 7, 2025. Check out our final look at the details of the theater and watch the final show below.
