According to Deadline, the series will now star Ravi Cabot-Conyers (“Star Wars: Skeleton Crew,” “Encanto”), Mykal-Michelle Harris (“Raven’s Home,” “Mixed-ish”), and Ryder Allen (“The Penguin,” “Palmer”).
Cabot-Conyers will play Jake, described as a “hardworking middle school student with a big heart.” Harris will portray Jen, an “artistic middle schooler who is always ahead of the game.” Allen will be Taylor, “a middle school student who is cautious but avoids turning down his friends.”
An animated Oswald series was first rumored for Disney+ in 2019, before the streaming service originally launched. Favreau will write and produce the Oswald series; he also has his hands full with directing the upcoming feature film, “The Mandalorian & Grogu.” Favreau’s other credits include directing the live-action remakes of Disney’s “The Jungle Book” and “The Lion King;” executive producing several Marvel films, “Ahsoka,” and Star Wars: Skeleton Crew;” and creating “The Mandalorian.”
Oswald the Lucky Rabbit was created by Walt Disney in 1927, and starred in several Disney animated shorts before Universal took control of the character. In response, Disney created the character of Mickey Mouse. Disney CEO Bob Iger made reacquiring Oswald a priority for the company, and was successful in 2006. Since then, Oswald has made appearances in the Disney Parks and on merchandise, as well as appeared as a main character in the video game “Epic Mickey.” In 2022, Disney released their first hand-drawn Oswald short in 95 years, which you can watch below:
