The original co-writer and co-director of the 2002 animated Lilo & Stitch is returning to write the live-action remake’s sequel.
Chris Sanders Writing Lilo & Stitch 2
According to Deadline, Disney has picked Chris Sanders to write the sequel to the 2025 Lilo & Stitch. Though Sanders wrote and directed the original with Dean DeBlois, he did not have a hand on the ball for the 2025 remake — except to reprise his voice role as Stitch.
The live-action screenplay was penned by Chris Kekaniokalani Bright and Mike Van Waes, and the film was directed by Dean Fleischer Camp.
Despite controversial changes, the live-action Lilo & Stitch had a successful box office run, grossing $1.009 billion worldwide. Disney announced the live-action Lilo & Stitch 2 on 626 Day.
The remake has faced criticism for removing Gantu, Pleakley no longer dressing in drag, and the ending. Fleischer Camp responded to the latter, stating, “People do get left behind.”
The original Lilo & Stitch had a global total of $273.1 million. It had multiple animated sequels, including Lilo & Stitch 2: Stitch Has a Glitch, released in 2005 direct-to-video. It’s unknown if the live-action sequel will be based on the animated one or if it will have a new story.
