There are some new menu items on the Walt Disney World Resort Monorail loop. Steakhouse 71 has three new desserts, including a Caramel Popcorn Creme Brulee.
New Monorail Loop Menu Items
Steakhouse 71

Steakhouse 71 is in Disney’s Contemporary Resort. It opened in 2021, replacing The Wave… Of American Flavors. The restaurant has revamped their lunch and dinner dessert menu. Don’t worry, the Steakhouse 71 Signature Chocolate Cake is still available. But the Ambrosia, Crème Brûlée, and Apple Tart Tatin have been replaced by Lemon Cream, Carrot Cake-Cheesecake, and Popcorn Crème Brûlée.

Lemon Cream – $10
Vanilla Cake, Lemon Curd, Blueberry Compote, Blueberry Sauce, Hibiscus Meringue (Plant-based)

Being a plant-based cake, this is not super moist and soft. It’s a little dry, but has good vanilla flavor. The lemon curd is a bit gelatinous, but not as much as we thought it would be based on looks.

The lemon isn’t too tart or overpowering, while still holding in your mouth for several moments after you take a bite. The flavor comes through on the meringue too, making this a decent plant-based dessert.

Carrot Cake-Cheesecake – $10
Pineapple Compote, Whipped Cream, Candied Walnuts

This has a vague description in the menu, but it ended up being fantastic. Though it’s cheesecake on top of carrot cake, the flavor profile is more like carrot cake with cream cheese icing. The carrot cake is moist and perfect.

The candied walnuts and whipped cream are wonderful accompaniments. This is a spectacular dessert.

Popcorn Crème Brûlée – $11
Caramel Popcorn, Salted Caramel Sauce

First appearances made us think this dessert would be a favorite. The caramel popcorn over the top is excellent. It doesn’t have that somewhat burnt aftertaste you sometimes get with the caramel, but it retains just the right amount of crunch.

However, the description for this dessert is misleading. We would not call this a creme brulee, it has the texture of a cheesecake and is thick rather than soft or creamy. It did not hold up very well after it was served, either. But, our major issue with this dessert was the cookie on the bottom. We have seen this type of cookie base on many Walt Disney World desserts, and it rarely adds anything. This one in particular was very chalky and thick.
If we were rating purely the popcorn, this dessert would get a seven. But with the weird texture and crumbly cookie on the bottom, we had to take off a few points. It’s not a bad dessert, it’s just a shame that so much potential was wasted.
